Another example of my exploration among various blogging sites.
Why does Google rate this site so high?
Published on July 3, 2004 By wjzhu In Websites
I can't belive it. When I google "JoeUser", my site is the top user site, right after the JoeUser homepage, despite the lack of articles on my site. This is an attempt to sort out the reason for this, and an apology to the JoeUser community for the injustice done to so many great bloggers at JoeUser.

Background:
About half a year ago I test out many blogging tools and provider sites in order to decide what is the best system to catch all my mind-dumps. I had great admiration for JoeUser already back then, but it lacked a few features that I wish to have, so I have not been blogging here. Now as I visit again, I see many great features that is wonderful for most people. (I would not need to search elsewhere 6 months ago if I saw all the features that I see now.)

Google ranking
So I had only 2 postings, and yet I am the top Google-ranked JoeUser. What is the reason for this?

At first I look at all the referers to my site, and find a great number of spam sites that are randomly linking to different bloggers, perhaps an attempt to trick Google in some way. But this would not explain my top ranking. Although I was an early JoeUser, there are many other even more prominent JU who could receive similar spam links.

The next possibility is that the blogs within JU do not receive many outside links for Google to elevate its value. Another possibility along the same lines is that JoeUser does not support Search Engine friendly URL, making outside links to JU blogs valueless. If this is the case, I am sure the JU admins will fix things accordingly, if this Google ranking is really an issue to people.

If the previous paragraph is really the reason, then my extensive blogging elsewhere, many at BlogDrive and tech-spirits.com, must be highly valued, and links from there to reference my JoeUser blog must have received sufficient Google rank to elevate this JU blog, despite my lack of posting here.

If all these conjectures are true, then Google is actually quite smart in finding bloggers.

But then, I also find 2nd, and several other highly Google ranked JU blogs to be similarly few in posting. That may mean that somehow the whole Google ranking system is heavily spammed, possibly because my links to here from other outside blogs may have been intercepted by spammers, and so I get more spam links than other truly worthy JUs.

No matter what the real reason is, I want to officially declare that my JU blog is not worthy of being the top JU spot, and hope Google or someone fix things. There had be so many other excellent blogs within JU that should get the proper attention.

What do you all think?
